Wyong to Brooklyn

A ride a bit different from the normal Tuesday supplementry ride that we do. A challenge and a chance to experience a rural downhill (well … mostly!) meander through very pleasant countryside.
It consists of catching the train to Wyong, then riding to Brooklyn via Yarramalong, Kulnura, Central Mangrove, Calga and thence to the Hawksbury River rail station at Brooklyn. The riding distance is about 70 km.
As you can see from the ride profile below there is a climb, 20 km into the ride, of about 320 metres. For comparison the climb from the northern beaches to Terrey Hills is about 220 meters.

Places for breaks

There is a general store at Yarramalong that has coffee and snacks, Central Mangrove has a ‘shed’ at Peats Ridge Village with a wide range of café style food. Unfortunately the ‘Road Warriors’ at Calga has closed where but the pub at Brooklyn is good and very close to the train station.

Catch the 8.52am train from Hornsby arrive Wyong 9.55am.
Arrive Yarramalong 11am. Coffee break.
Arrive Kulnura 12.15pm  (This allows one hour to climb the hill, usually takes only 30 minutes or so even when partially walked.)
Allow three hours to get to Brooklyn. 45km   This is only at 15km/hr
we will probably only take 2 hours riding time or less in fact,
leaving one hour for break central Mangrove “Shed”.
Arrive Brooklyn at 3.15 pm to catch train at 3.51.  36 minutes spare.
This will get us into Hornsby Station at 4.17 pm.
